Development, Qualification and Validation of in vitro Models
Research teams at the Centre for Predictive in vitro Models are developing a broad portfolio of in vitro models including:
- 3D cell culture models
- Organoids
- Organ-on-a-chip models
Our work leverages outstanding core facilities for micro-manufacture of bespoke models as well as a suite of commercial organ-on-a-chip platforms. Model development emphasises physiological relevance including cell–cell interactions, multicellular architecture and dynamic microenvironments, so that models recapitulate in vivo organ behaviour better than simple 2D cell cultures or many animal models.
Critical to this is the comprehensive characterisation / qualification of the models followed by model validation to support widespread adoption and translation to end users in academia and industry.
Key to model development is initial understanding of the specific context of use which determines the model design.
