Research Interests

Immunotoxicology, Cytokine release assay, flowcytometry

As head of the Immunotoxicology Laboratory at the UK National Institute for Biological Standards and Control, I develop, initiate and direct a broad program of research in immunotoxicology to understand mechanisms of action of biological medicines on the immune system with the goal of improving the safety, quality and efficacy.
I provide specialist preclinical technical support for hazard identification of first in human biological medicines e.g. cytokine release syndrome service. In addition I supervise the development of reference reagents for flow cytometry applications such as lyophilised cell standards for process controls for regenerative medicine, cell-based diagnostics and immune monitoring of treatment efficacy.
